I am completing my dissertation on women's theatre and I wanted to write to Carol to thank her for Unless.
A book I have read perhaps five times since commencing my studies in 2008.
It has been such an important book for me, its rawness, humanity, and tenderness.
How I would have loved to have known her.
Novels change lives and can make the silent yearnings and griefs of life more visible, comprehensible.
What a loss. I felt that in Unless, a deeper and more urgent Carol was speaking for and to women everywhere. (name withheld)
